One of the best books on marketing I’ve ever read is Seth Godin’s Purple Cow: Transform Your Business by Being Remarkable, which is summarised here. Put simply marketing is all about getting noticed – as a Purple Cow would be in a herd of Friesians.
Anyway, a lot of web and viral marketing builds on this principle and as a great example of how to stand out from the crowd, can you imagine an airline getting me to want to share their safety video? Well Air New Zealand have done it!
Just think – If they can get me to share their version of the normally boring stuff about seatbelts, exits and oxygen masks, then surely they have made quite an impact!
