Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the most common questions asked by Managing Directors and other business leaders interested in joining MD2MD.

Will MD2MD be right for my specific needs?
What if I live and work outside the area?

Whilst MD2MD operates within the areas described we don’t stop people from outside the area from being members, and this can work if someone travels into the area significantly as part of their role. Indeed, we currently have members who work in London and live the other end of the country! We also have our online option due to the current pandemic, meaning that location is not an issue at all.

What size organisation can join MD2MD?

Membership works best if you run an an established business like our members. To deliver a return on investment your business needs to be sufficiently established that you lead as much as you sell or deliver. That probably means that more than ten people are actively involved in the business and you probably have revenues of £500k to £50M.

Do we have to commit to a lengthy contract?
Are you a training company?

Not really. We’re probably best thought of as a membership organisation that combines the best elements of networking with the best of elements of leadership development. Our purpose is similar to leadership development.

The way MD2MD works is quite different to a traditional training course.

What other types of meeting do you hold?

Believing in continuous learning as we do, we are continually innovating and refining our offer.

We occasionally use other types of meeting including:

Our annual ‘retreat to advance’ at a suitably relaxing and inspirational venue. Over two days and one evening we try to step back from the day to day, month to month continuous improvement process and apply our mutually supportive but challenging approach to our long term goals and plans.

Mini conferences where we bring all MD2MD groups together for a day, and sometimes with other business leaders to interact in ways that can’t be achieved in small groups.

How does MD2MD compare to a Senior Management development programme at a business school?

The essence of MD2MD is learning with and from fellow leaders. Click here out find out more.

How does MD2MD actually work?
How well established is MD2MD?

MD2MD commenced trading in 2004. Click here to find out more.

Is MD2MD expensive?

As business leaders ourselves, we know the importance of being prudent and careful with the cash, as do our existing members. What they recognise is that businesses actually succeed not by eliminating all costs, but by investing smartly in ways that generate revenues and a return on investment.

For most leaders the cash cost to their business of their time in attending MD2MD is more than the cash cost. The opportunity cost is even greater. So as with everything, the real issue is value. Click here for more information.

How do I find the time?
What evidence exists that MD2MD is worthwhile?

There are a myriad of quotes from famous people and here’s some summary thoughts but you’ll probably prefer to hear from our members:

What are the alternatives to MD2MD?

A good question. We’re happy to be benchmarked as we believe we’ll come out well so we’ve tried to make it easy for you by collating four sets of information that might help you do a comparison.

Whilst we all know value for money is the critical question, sees are often a concern so the first addresses that directly:

Finally, the reality of life for us is that our biggest competitor is apathy. Some prefer to do nothing. We feel that’s a mistake but it’s their choice:
