Bernard Cook OBE
Bernard’s corporate career was with RankHovisMcDougall, now part of Premier Foods where he became a main board member and Divisional Managing Director of Mr. Kipling, the UK’s leading cake brand. Whilst with RHM, Bernard attended Harvard Business School.
For the last 20 years since leaving that corporate career Bernard has been a portfolio chairman of private equity invested companies, and has completed about 10 assignments for 3i.
In 2002, alongside those ventures, Bernard became a trustee of The Royal British Legion Poppy Factory and was Chairman for three years from 2010, in which role he was host to the Queen as she toured the factory on it’s 90th anniversary on 2012. He was awarded the OBE for services to ex-Servicemen and Women in the 2014 New Year’s Honour’s List.
Bernard is passionate about the differences between leadership and management and has developed his thinking through working with engagements with MD2MD as well as The Institute of Directors, The University of Hertfordshire, The Open University and The Leadership Trust.
In addition to current assignments, Bernard is now writing a book which attempts to clearly demonstrate how leadership is different to management, and only then can it be understood how to deploy both.
